This Companion App is aligned with AASTP-1 Edition C Version 1 (March 23) and has been developed to conduct rapid “one-on-one” Potential Explosive Site (PES) to Exposed Site (ES) Quantity Distance (QD) assessments for above-ground storage. While permission has been granted to utilise information contained within AASTP-1, this tool is not endorsed by NATO, particularly the Group of Experts on the Safety Aspects of Transportation and Storage of Military Ammunition and Explosives (AC/258). Consequently, the application should not be utilised for any formal site planning or QD assessments without validating the outcomes with those provided in AASTP-1 and adhering to the requirements published by your own nation’s regulations.

Background

The primary objective of AASTP-1 (Manual of NATO Guidelines for the Storage of Military Ammunition and Explosives) is to establish conventional military ammunition and explosives safety principles and guidelines for NATO member states. The document is an open-source publication without security classification or specific releasability instructions. This approach is intended to promote ammunition and explosives safety globally and facilitate the harmonisation of NATO requirements with other international explosives safety standards.
